Seiko faux Tuna

Seiko faux Tuna

I love the Seiko Tuna, I've wanted one since I first saw one. Unfortunately, they are too big for my small wrist. I found Seiko made a mini Tuna, unfortunately it is rare and I haven't been able to find one yet.
44mm is still large for me, but I would jump on it if I saw one.

Then I saw someone refer to a "faux" Tuna. A 42mm Seiko 5 in a Tuna like case. These are discontinued, so I have to be patient and look for a good deal. They usually sell for 100-150 and they came in various dial colors. I'd like to have the blue and white.

Or there is this one, I'd like to have the black and white dials of this one. It's also 42mm.

So I have a substitute for my Tuna desire. I like that they are so cheap and Seiko 5's are great for mods. I'd like to grab two in each style, 1 to wear and the others to play around with mods to the dials.

Seiko's been playing around a lot with the Tuna shroud lately. I believe they even made a Monster version with it. The faux Tunas used, IIRC, a plastic shroud. They seemed super popular a few years back, but Seiko being Seiko, they discontinued 'em.

I have been on the hunt for the mini myself. They must be well liked by their owners because they don't come up for sale. I have checked out the 5 and am just no sure. That older model Arnie comes up and I like it a lot but, to much money for a quartz watch that old. I have also seen a few Seiko 0020's for sale with a custom shroud that looks good. O well to many watches and not enough time.

I don't understand why Seiko doesn't put out a new mini Tuna. I am pretty sure it would be a big success for them.

Yeah, due to the age of these a lot of the plastic ones are broken now. Good ole ebay sells replacement ones for pretty cheap though and there are mini stainless ones for slightly more. I would definately put the plastic one up for safe keeping and put a stainless one on it for wear and tear.

Am surprised that Dagaz or Yobokies doesn't do a Tuna type mod on another case?

Good luck in your search!

Believe mort has a plastic shrouded one and bought the metal later on. Let us know if you need help trying to locate one.
